It is interesting how people can have a love-hate relationship with the ACLU. I admit to disagreeing with their stance on some issues but I respect them for standing up for the rights of all Americans, no matter the background.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Unfortunately many Americans have ceded the majority of their freedoms to an ever increasing and complex government, expecting that "someone else can take care of me". Whatever happened to the idea that the government was "of the people, by the people" and that serving in the government was a high honor and that the government would do all it can to protect its citizens and this nation? Where those who served in the Congress paid their own way instead of drawing a salary.
Now we see articles about corruption in government, how politicians continually vote themselves pay raises when the certainly don't deserve it (generally late at night so we or the media don't notice), where the US Government turns on its own border guards (the 2 poor SOBs in Texas that got railroaded on bogus shite, while the scumbag drug running illegal alien was given complete immunity and medical care, at tax payer expense!!!), and countless other examples, including a personal hot button of mine - the trampling of religious freedoms of "non-majority" religions, in particular "pagan" ones by the Government under the influence of the so-called “Religious Rightâ€ÂÂ. What makes it even more repugnant to me is when it effects those who serve in the US Military and those who gave their lives so I can sit here and rant today.
If you are not familiar with the story, here is a link to quick recap as appeared in the Washington Post: HERE

It took a little time but finally some bigger guns stepped into the arena to smack the Government into shape. Enter the ACLU (here is where I started clapping.)
On September 29th, 2006, the ACLU filed suit in the US Court of Appeals demanding the Veterans Administration essentially get off its collective butt and quit stonewalling approval of the Pentagram where it had approved several other symbols in an expedited manner (read the complaint to see the list) over the last several years.
Here is a link to the complaint the ACLU filed: PDF of Complaint
With the ACLU stepping in, I hope that there is some more media coverage and that the VA will get off its butt and do what is right. We’ll just have to wait and see.
For now, we have to wait and hope that the courts will grant the order and further prevent this travesty of justice from continuing.
